SafeGuard Sign&Crypt is the electronic alternative to a signed letter sent to the addressee in a sealed envelope. Seamlessly integrated into Lotus Notes, it offers an easy to use way to encrypt and electronically sign any e-mail and attached file.

With SafeGuard Sign&Crypt, Utimaco Safeware offers a solution, which is tailored exactly to meet the goals of this initiative.
The Product
SafeGuard Sign&Crypt for Notes provides an electronic signature for e-mails and attached files, which can then be sent in an encrypted form. SafeGuard Sign&Crypt uses digital signatures, encryption and verification to guarantee the confidentiality of sensitive information all along the network path from sender to recipient. This makes SafeGuard Sign&Crypt an ideal solution for Lotus Notes users who want maximum security when sending sensitive information.
Familiar working environment
Users do not have to leave their familiar working environment in order to use SafeGuard Sign&Crypt. Files can be signed and encrypted by means of a simple mouse click.
Hardware and software
The maximum security offered by SafeGuard Sign&Crypt is based on a combined hardware and software solution that consists of a signature, verification and an optional SafeGuard SmartCard and CardMan smart card reader. The signature itself is provided using the signature component, whereas the verification component ensures the authenticity of the signature.

SafeGuard Sign&Crypt is based upon accepted encryption technologies and standard protocols. SafeGuard Sign&Crypt is already in use at numerous administrative, governmental and financial institutions.
Standardized security
To achieve utmost data security, SafeGuard Sign&Crypt uses S/MIME v2 and MTT v1/v2 as standard protocols for all security operations. The X.509 certificate confirms the unequivocal allocation of the key pair (public and private key) to the user.
Effective encryption
SafeGuard Sign&Crypt supports powerful encryption algorithms such as 3DES (168 bit), RSA, and SHA-1, which guarantee a high-level of data security.
Signature via smartcard
The user’s private key can be stored on a SafeGuard SmartCard from Utimaco Safeware and protected by a PIN. This procedure provides an even higher level of security than conventional software tokens, since the private key never leaves the card. Misuse of stolen and lost smart cards is prevented using a Certificate Revocation List (CRL).
Secure key
Users obtain key pairs, certificates and (optionally) SafeGuard Smartcard's from the SafeGuard PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) of Utimaco Safeware. Alternatively, SafeGuard Sign&Crypt for Notes will also work with third-party PKIs.
